Hawkeye Lunch & Learn: The Virtual Soldier

You are invited to the upcoming Hawkeye Lunch & Learn lecture titled The Virtual Soldier, presented by Karim Abdel-Malek, Senior Associate to the Provost, Director for the Center for Computer-Aided Design, and Professor of Biomedical Engineering. This lecture is free and open to the public, however, an RSVP is encouraged.

Friends and Alumni will be prompted to create an account the first time they register for a University of Iowa event. Please contact if you encounter any technical issues. Attendees are invited to bring their lunch, and drinks and desserts will be provided.

Santos® is a human simulator developed at the University of Iowa which aids in the reduction of load for the US Marines, tests new equipment for the US Army, and helps design new vehicles for the auto manufacturing industry.  Santos® is a computer program developed over the past 12 years by a team of about 50 researchers.  Santos® operates inside a computer and can check for all types of scenarios before the equipment or vehicle is built, thus reducing cost and time. Professor Abdel-Malek will discuss his experience working with Santos® on ongoing research. This lecture is sponsored by the University of Iowa Provost's Office of Outreach & Engagement.
