By Courtney Meaker
Directed by Bo Frazier
Tuesday, April 30 at 5:30 and 9:00 p.m.

Cass wakes up from a dream to find her hands are burnt having seen a vision of Greenville engulfed in flames. No one believes her, but smoke has started descending on the town. People are leaving, never to be heard from again. Meanwhile, the Director of Tourism is determined to keep tourists out of the town. Bell at the Back of Her Throat is an examination of patriarchy, witchcraft, and xenophobia through the Cassandra myth.

This production contains adult themes and violence and will use theatrical haze.

ABOUT IOWA NEW PLAY FESTIVAL
For more than forty years, the University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts has presented an annual festival centered on producing, reading, and analyzing new scripts from the Iowa Playwrights Workshop. Preparing eleven new plays and presenting them in a single week is a monumental undertaking that is only possible through the utilization of UI Department of Theatre Arts’ wide-ranging resources in acting, directing, design, dramaturgy, stage management, and technical support. Through staged readings, workshops, and productions, Festival showcases the process of new play development.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
