The Rose Francis Elevator Pitch Competition is open to all University of Iowa students and is held annually in the fall. The first day of the competition, November 14, is for early stage businesses and the second day, November 15, of the competition is for validated businesses.

The term “elevator pitch” comes from the amount of time that it would take an elevator to reach a desired floor while an entrepreneur convinces an investor to finance their business idea. An elevator pitch is essentially an overview of a business idea or commercial opportunity. Venture capitalists can ask entrepreneurs for their elevator pitch and can judge the validity of an idea and team based on the quality of its elevator pitch.

The Rose Francis Elevator Pitch Competition allows all University of Iowa students to pitch their business ideas for a chance to win part of the $50,000 in total cash prizes.

Apply by November 6, 2019! This event is for UI students only!

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
