artistic image of stories around the world

Olson Graduate Assistant in Special Collections, Micaela Terronez, originally pursued librarianship because of her interest in the migration experiences of her ancestors from Mexico. She longed to learn more about her ancestral past and has fortunately done so with the assistance of photographs, oral histories, written documents, and artifacts. This interest inspired her to research other experiences across the Special Collections department and the Iowa Women's Archives. In doing so, Terronez further observed the complexity and fluidness of migration as shown throughout the multiple collections. Her exhibit, Moving Stories: Experiences and Remnants of Migration, will feature a timeline of archival materials from primarily the 20th century, in conjunction with more present-day interpretations of migration through the form of artists' books. The purpose of this selection is to give viewers the opportunity to observe the multiple lenses of individuals who have relocated to the United States in conversation with current experiences and events.

From May until August, Moving Stories: Experiences and Remnants of Migration will be on display in the Reading Room of the Special Collections department on the third floor of the Main Library. Reading room hours are Monday-Friday 10am-5pm, with Tuesday hours being 10am-7pm. All are welcome to view the exhibit.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
