Iowa’s population is now comprised of a number of immigrants and refugees. They are a critical component of our labor force. The University of Iowa Staff Language and Culture Services, ICAD, and IowaWORKS present a panel representing these new Americans and employers that have hired them.

3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 1

MERGE, 136 S. Dubuque St. Iowa City (Ped Mall next to the public library)

Part 1: Cultural Awareness in the Workplace
Hear from immigrants and refugees from places like Sudan and South Sudan, Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, the Marshall Islands and the new wave of LatinX. They will share stories about the path they took to get to Iowa and find viable employment and the struggles they still face to maintain employment and make a life here.

Part 2: Managing Cultural Diversity for Success
Employers and partners present the strategies used to recruit and retain these workers. Representatives from UI Facilities Management and Environmental and Guest Services departments, along with IowaWORKS, and Kirkwood Community College will be part of the panel.

Registration
The event is free, but because of limited space, registration is required. Register online.
