There is no shortage of zombie movies in the horror genre canon. In fact, there are so many that is hard to differentiate between a good quality rendering of the undead apocalypse and lesser, derivative iterations that tend to shamble along aimlessly. 28 Days Later, however, is a undisputed masterpiece of the sub-genre and one of the most engaging and high-octane British horror films of all time. Directed with finesse by Danny Boyle, the film follows a young Cillian Murphy as he awakes from a coma to find a zombie-infested London. His shellshocked walk through a deserted central London is one of the most iconic film sequences of the 21st century, and remains breathtaking in its evocation of a quiet, almost beautiful sense of dread. Boyle's singular vision of a post-apocalyptic London, seething with the undead, is a masterclass in genre filmmaking. You won't want to miss it.
