The UI First-Generation Task Force invites all UI students, faculty, and staff to attend the 1st annual First-Generation Student Awards and Recognition Ceremony on Friday, November 8. A reception will take place from 3:00-4:00 p.m., followed by the awards program. This year's keynote address will be given by Dr. Kevin Campbell. Dr. Campbell, who identified as a first-generation college student, is Professor and Departmental Executive Officer of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, Professor of Neurology, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator at the University of Iowa.

Attendees are asked to RSVP by Thursday, October 31.

At the University of Iowa, a first-generation student is a student who does not have a parent or legal guardian who completed a four-year degree. Almost 25% of UI undergraduates identify as first-generation, and we are excited for this opportunity to celebrate these students' many accomplishments. The awards ceremony, which coincides with the University of Iowa's participation in the National First-Generation College Celebration, will feature the presentation of the newly-established 1stGen@Iowa Awards. These awards recognize first-generation student achievements as well as outstanding advocacy and support efforts of faculty and staff.

Parking will be available free of charge in Lot 55 by Hancher Auditorium beginning at 2:30pm.

This event is being held as part of the UI's participation in the National First-Generation College Celebration, November 3 - 8.
