Bilingual Readings with Arai Takako November 4 and 5

Join the UI Japanese Program for two evenings (November 4 & 5) of bilingual readings with author Aria Takako.  Arai Takako, the internationally celebrated poet and 2019 International Writing Program participant, will read selections from her poetry in the original Japanese, and members of the Workshop in Japanese Literary Translation will read their English translations. Reading sequence to be determined by the audience. Both events are free and open to the public.

Arai Takako is the author of several poetry collections, including Soul Dance (Tamashii dansu), which won the 2008 Oguma Hideo Prize, and the newly released English collection Factory Girls. She is producer of the forthcoming film Songs Still Sung, about the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in northern Japan. She is a member of the 2019 International Writing Program, participating courtesy of the U.S. Department of State.

This event is co-sponsored by the International Writing Program, International Programs, the Center for Asian and Pacific Studies, and the Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Iowa.
