Hardin Open Workshops: Gene Ontology Online
Nov 19, 2019
01:00 PM - 02:00 PM
Hardin Library for Health Sciences
600 Newton Road, Iowa City, IA 52246
This workshop introduces you to the Gene Ontology (GO) framework. Publications in molecular biology mostly lack a unified language to describe their hypotheses and findings; written in ‘natural’ language, they may be easier to read but are often difficult to compare. GO, in contrast, is a controlled language that enables describing molecular functions, cellular components, and biological processes across species. Thus, it highlights similarities between observations, avoids ambiguity, and facilitates machine readability. This workshop will enable you to ‘find your way’ through the GO terminology and apply its essential concepts to your research area. This will be an online class taught through Zoom.
