“Experiment for measuring viscoelasticity in a 2D dusty plasma”

Abstract: Transport in plasmas is often characterized by transport coefficients. I introduce the concept of viscosity, as a transport coefficient, and then I explain how this concept can be generalized to describe a phenomenon called viscoelasticity, which captures not only the usual dissipative effects of transport, but also energy storage effects. I will describe an experiment that is underway, and some of the results I have obtained so far.
