Graduate/Undergraduate Concert
December 6, 7, 8 at 8:00 p.m.
Space Place Theater

The following works choreographed by graduate and undergraduate students in the University of Iowa Department of Dance will be featured in the Graduate/Undergraduate Concert:

Copper Goes Green
Choreography by Kate Vincek, in collaboration with the dancers
Copper Goes Green explores themes of inclusion, exclusion, and shift of identity as we find ourselves shaped by those around us. These shifts and corrosions may be disruptive or opportunistic, but are always inevitable and constant.

From Within
Choreography by Julianna Feracota
From Within marks the end of a personal journey that was wrought with times of hardship and self-discovery, but that was conquered with inner-strength and perseverance.

Baggage Claim
Choreography by Kaitlin Craven, in collaboration with the dancers
Baggage Claim explores both the tangible and intangible weights that we carry throughout our lives, as well as what might happen when we are stripped of them.

finish her feet
Created by Flannery McAdam and Louise Rey
Choreography by Flannery McAdam

Aluminum Fur
Choreography by Meredith Stapleton
A work for five dancers by Meredith Stapleton, Aluminum Fur imagines a world that is constantly shifting with poignant tuning towards the tiniest of particles.

It’s a Post-Wonderful Life
Choreography by Jeremy Cline

Latch
Choreography by Mia Spitzer and Jessie Jewell
Latch explores the way we grasp onto personal opinions and perceptions, then accept them as true. It asks us what or whom we are truly latched to. Is it our pure self, the idea of ourselves, or the relationships that involve us?

NOT I BUT THAT WHICH WORKS WITHIN ME*
Choreography by Alyssa Gersony, in collaboration with the dancers and musicians
Virtuoso, manifesto, oppressor, and oppressed are made visible through paradox, both delicate and brash. A dance-collage of discomfort and memory that seeks to undo its own construction.

(we) CYPHER
Angelica DeLashmette, in collaboration with the dancers
Hip Hop vernacular is an American born social dance form. It is one element of Hip Hop culture. The communal practice of the cypher in Hip Hop culture holds its value and meaning in the exchange of movement conversation. The cypher is a space for expression of individuality, creativity, histories, culture, race, and identity. As we share our stories, we hold space for listening. We witness. We see. We co-create. We shift our way of being in the world.

*NOT I BUT THAT WHICH WORKS WITHIN ME will only be performed during the Saturday, December 8 concert.
