The current Main Library Gallery exhibit and the original documentary film The Pull of Horses in Urban American Performance, 1860-1920 originated as a collaboration between Dr. Kim Marra, Depts. of American Studies and Theatre Arts, and Mark Anderson of the Digital Scholarship & Publishing Studio. The exhibition and film explore the physical and social impact of equines as powerful animals, by combining film, video, photographs and illustrations from local collections. The exhibit includes glimpses of Iowa City town and campus life, as well as national equestrian culture, especially as multitudes of women took up the sport of riding and advocated for suffrage. At this Share Your Scholarship event, Marra and Anderson will describe their collaboration, which explored the digital aspects of research and storytelling.
