Dr. Sue Taylor will discuss her book Grant Wood’s Secrets in conversations with a selection of prints by Wood from the Stanley Museum of Art collection.

A former Midwesterner, museum curator, newspaper critic, and college dean, Sue Taylor is now Professor Emerita of Art History at Portland State University. She earned her BA at Roosevelt University and her MA and PhD at the University of Chicago, becoming an award-winning educator and prolific writer on modern and contemporary art. In 2005, Dr. Taylor's groundbreaking psychological essay "Grant Wood's Family Album" won the Smithsonian’s Patricia and Philip Frost Prize, and she continues her probing analyses in Grant Wood's Secrets, newly released by the University of Delaware Press.

Sue Taylor’s visit is made possible through the support of the Grant Wood Art Colony at the University of Iowa. The Colony celebrates the life and legacy of Iowa’s most famous artist, Grant Wood, through fellowships, symposia, and outreach. Taylor’s book, Grant Wood’s Secrets, continues a tradition of excellent scholarship of this important Regionalist artist.
