The Writers of Color Reading Series is a biannual event co-curated by The Englert Theatre and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop that features graduate student writers from all University of Iowa creative writing programs as well as featured guests.

Cindy Juyoung Ok

Cindy Juyoung Ok taught high school physics for many years at a public school in Los Angeles. She now attends the Iowa Writers’ Workshop on the Truman Capote Fellowship.

hurmat kazmi

hurmat kazmi is a fiction writer and playwright from Karachi, Pakistan.They are currently an MFA candidate in fiction at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. On days they feel most homesick, they are teeming with the desire to work on a collection of linked short stories set in Karachi. On other days, they don’t think about writing at all.

Marisa Celina Tirado

Marisa Celina Tirado is a Latinx poet at the Iowa Writers Workshop, originally from Chicago. She has received scholarships from The Kenyon Review, Eckerd College, and Leopardi. You can read her work is in the forthcoming Colorado Review.
