Alan MacVey Theatre, UI Theatre Building

Join the Darwin Turner Action Theatre (DTAT) on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18 at 8:00 p.m. in the Alan MacVey Theatre, UI Theatre Building.

Curated by Steven Willis and Jivani Rodriguez of the University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts, this newly devised series of works will bring together individuals of underrepresented communities to share their experiences of living in Iowa City. The works will be presented as a series of consecutive poems, monologues, and short stories and will be told from the perspective of University of Iowa students, as well as members of the Iowa City community.

Darwin Turner Action Theatre (DTAT) is the social outreach component for the Department of Theatre Arts. It was originally established in 1968 as Black Action Theatre. Its mission was to expose Iowa audiences to African-American culture and promote knowledge and understanding to people of different backgrounds. DTAT is now more culturally and socially inclusive, reflecting the growing diversity of our state and country. It presents dynamic, thought-provoking pieces of theatre for social and cultural awareness.
