2020 Fall New Teaching Assistant Orientation
This event will introduce participants to the role of teaching assistant at the University of Iowa and focus on techniques and tools used in virtual and face-to-face instruction.
Participants will network with TAs from other backgrounds as well as members of their departments as we discuss how to prepare for the first week and beyond.
Attendees will:
- Learn strategies for effective teaching in virtual classrooms.
- Discuss common teaching concerns with experienced TAs.
- Practice assessment techniques relevant to their discipline.
- Connect with instructors from different departments.
Who can attend:
This event is geared toward people who will be TAs at the UI for the first time in the 2020-2021 academic year. Others are welcome to inquire about possible attendance. In addition, we encourage all TAs to attend other upcoming OTLT pedagogy workshops and technology training sessions.

9:10 to 10: Technological Tools for Effective Pedagogy
10 to 10:10: Break
10:10 to 11: Practical Strategies for a Successful Semester
11 to 11:50: Teaching in Your Discipline and Practice with Grading and Feedback
11:50 to noon: Next Steps and Evaluations
