The Building University of Iowa Leadership for Diversity (BUILD) initiative is an opportunity for UI faculty, staff, and graduate students to gain strategic knowledge and skills to contribute to a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. By completing a series of workshops, participants will earn a certificate demonstrating their commitment as leaders for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and classroom.

Our social identities (both privileged and oppressed) shape our individual lived experiences. Individuals in a same situation experience it differently based on their social identities. In this advanced session, the presenter will explore the concept of intersectionality. Through case studies and group discussion, the session will further explore the application of intersectionality in teaching, student advising, administration, and workplace for inclusion and equity excellence. This is an advanced session and will specifically benefit individuals who have finished the BUILD certificate, who have attended BUILD sessions on topics of race, LGBTQ+, class, gender, first-generation college students, URM student groups, etc.

To register for UI campus courses, log-in to UI Employee Self Service, click on "My Training" to be rerouted to Learning and Development, and click on the “Enroll in Courses” tab. Then use the search fields to find the desired sessions.
