The Legacy of Dr. Ignacio Ponseti: Freeing the World of Clubfoot Disability

Please join us for a virtual town hall about pioneering University of Iowa physician Ignacio Ponseti, MD—who developed a revolutionary treatment for clubfoot—and the Ponseti International Association, which is continuing Dr. Ponseti’s important work today.

Jose Morcuende (01R), MD, director of the Ponseti International Association, and Thomas Cook (87PhD), the association’s director of global operations, will share more about their organization’s contributions, both at Iowa and abroad, to helping children walk.

The University of Iowa is the home of modern treatment for clubfoot, a birth defect that affects approximately 150,000-200,000 children each year. The Ponseti method is considered the “gold standard” treatment for clubfoot and is nearly 100% effective when a trained health care provider uses it properly.

We invite you to register for this important discussion.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
