At the University of Iowa, a first-generation student is a student who does not have a parent or legal guardian who completed a four-year degree. Almost 25% of UI undergraduates identify as first-generation, and we are excited for this opportunity to celebrate these students' many accomplishments. The awards ceremony, which coincides with the University of Iowa's participation in the National First-Generation College Celebration, November 8-13, will feature the presentation of the 2020 1stGen@Iowa Awards. These awards recognize first-generation student achievements as well as outstanding advocacy and support efforts of faculty and staff.
