He’s also served as an ESL teacher, a caretaker for adults with disabilities, and a refugee community engagement professional.

Chaparro leads the Chicago region of Braven, a national organization that empowers underrepresented youth with the skills, confidence, and experience necessary to transition from college to the professional workforce. He has worked for various nonprofit and corporate organizations, including Teach for America, McKinsey & Company, and ArcelorMittal.

Harrington is the first Black woman elected to the North Liberty City Council and is program supervisor for Special and Underserved Populations with the City of Iowa City. She co-founded the Sankofa Outreach Connection, a nonprofit that supports women of color, and is active with various committees, including Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity and the Iowa Children’s Museum.

Walker is a Linn County Supervisor whose writing has been featured in Little Village Magazine, Quartz Magazine, and The Root—an online magazine created by The Washington Post. He worked for the Case Foundation and launched the LBA Foundation, an education-based nonprofit that helps at-risk students stay on course to graduation.
