Podcasting with Purpose: Annie Galvin

Photograph of a Microphone

Calling all podcasters, podcast enthusiasts, and podcast newbies! Learn from expert podcasters about the craft of podcasting with purpose, from the nuts and bolts of recording and editing audio to the intellectual and creative labor of audio storytelling. As part of our goal to prepare graduate students for a wide range of careers serving the public good, Humanities for the Public Good is exploring new and innovative methods of interpretation, storytelling, and meaning-making. The Podcasting with Purpose series will bring experienced podcast creators and hosts each month in Spring 2021 to discuss their craft and how academics can connect their research, teaching, and advocacy with the wide world of podcasting. This series is supported by Humanities for the Public Good, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies.

Annie Galvin is currently a Mellon/ACLS Public Fellow and the associate editor and podcast producer at Public Books, an online magazine of ideas, scholarship, and the arts. She co-created, produced, and hosted the magazine’s new public-scholarship podcast, Public Books 101. Her career has combined teaching, academic research, arts journalism, and now editing and podcasting, and her current work at Public Books is guided by her passion for spreading academic knowledge and expertise beyond the walls of the university. Galvin received her PhD in English from the University of Virginia and an M.Phil. in Irish Writing from Trinity College Dublin. Her academic and public writing focuses on contemporary global fiction, gender and sexuality studies, visual culture, and popular music. Her writing appears or is forthcoming in Studies in Contemporary Fiction, Breac: A Digital Journal of Irish Studies, A Tumblr Book: Platform and Cultures, Los Angeles Review of Books, Paste Magazine, PopMatters, and elsewhere.
