Smart Talks

Jennifer (Otis) Miller will share her research on artists, activism, and museums. First, she will ground her talk by sharing two examples from her own studio arts practice and art installations. These projects sought to elevate our collective environmental consciousness and to promote wetland preservation and restoration here in the Midwest. Second, Miller will discuss her latest visual arts and virtual writing projects, begun during her 2021 Obermann Fellowship with the African American Museum of Iowa: Unwavering: Art Creation in Defense of Black Lives and Unwavering: Virtual Writing Project. Third, she will present her research and engagement with the Broken Treaty Quilts and Broken Treaty Medallions, two ongoing arts activist projects by Gina Adams.

Jennifer (Otis) Miller has an MFA in Ceramics (2000, University of Iowa) and an MA ESL (2015, Hamline University). Currently, she is a doctoral student in the University of Iowa College of Education's Language, Literacy, and Culture program.
