The League of Women Voters of Johnson County, the University of Iowa Pentacrest Museums and the University of Iowa Public Policy Center will continue the 100th anniversary commemoration of the passage of the 19th Amendment with a series of public webinars. These sessions examine the suffragists' work at the national, state and local levels that took the nation through the first step toward gender quality: a woman's right to vote. A monumental step, it was the first of many—some still ahead.

The first in this series New Wave or No More Waves?: Old Capitol Round Table will highlight where women are now by redefining present-day suffrage and barriers women experience to achieve electoral and professional success.

Expert panelists include: Raquisha Harrington, North Liberty City Council; Hai Huynh, Coralville City Council; Angie Jordon, South District Neighborhood representative; and Noel Mills, graduate assistant in the UI Office of Community Engagement and former UI Student Senate president. Session to be moderated by Gazette investigative reporter Erin Jordan.

This session is free with required registration. Sign up HERE.

This event is in conjunction with the Pentacrest Museums exhibit, Hard Won, Not Done: A Century's Struggle (now available as a virtual exhibit). Some associated public programming was canceled in 2020 due to closure. These webinars revive this thoughtful programming and expand to home audiences.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
