Hacky Hour is an informal gathering of graduate students, research staff, and anyone at the University of Iowa interested in sharing knowledge and ask questions about their data and how to code analyses for their data. Hacky Hour can be a great place to implement cool methods you saw in a paper; understand code that you need to utilize in your work; learn how to code; automate data entry, data analysis, or visualizations; and so much more.
Hacky Hour has two objectives this semester: 1) Read a chapter a week from the Python textbook "Automate the Boring Stuff" and to apply mini-projects out of the book as a group each meeting; and 2) provide support for your own coding related questions/problems. Breakout rooms will be utilized during Zoom meetings to achieve these objectives. Think of Hacky Hour as a book club and a study space for coding.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
