Johnson County Landmark plays The Kansas City Suite

Please join Johnson County Landmark for its final concert of the fall semester. This performance will feature the performance of the entire Kansas City Suite, written by notable saxophonist and composer Benny Carter. The 10-monemet work depicts a variety of notable jazz clubs, infamous streets, hangouts and districts of consequence to the Kansas City jazz scene of the 1930’s. These places disappeared from the KC landscape long ago, but Carter leaves us with a sonic pictorial of the iconic places that were the heart and soul of Kansas City jazz music during the swing era. The Kansas City Suite is rarely performed in its entirety, so we are pleased to be among the few to do so. Concert repertoire also includes works by Bob Brookmeyer and Matt Catingub.
