Program and Objectives

This program will detail how challenging cases can be corrected so that the restorative dentist can face these challenges with more esthetic options. Periodontists will gain insight into how they can best help patients through refined procedures for cosmetic and functional enhancement. The combined interdisciplinary approach will benefit everyone. Dentists, periodontists, hygienists, dental lab technicians and dental assistants will all benefit through this program. Many times, doctors will be surprised about what is achievable through our oral plastic procedures.

At the completion of this presentation, the participants should be able to:

  • Explain current capabilities and limitations of modern gingival augmentation procedures;
  • Recognize when treatment for a lost interdental papilla can be accomplished through corrective surgery, orthodontics, or restorative dentistry;
  • Discuss steps on correcting the “gummy smile”;
  • Summarize the diagnosing and treatment restoration of the loss interdental papilla, esthetic implant outcomes, and developing a treatment scheme and a rationale of what to do first; and
  • Explain your understanding of what to treat and what to refer.

Many times, restorative dentists ask, “Why does my periodontist not offer this?”  Bring your periodontist and let’s all work together. Become the only team in your area to offer these new and exciting patient pleasing options!
