She has recently returned to her life and work in Portland, Oregon where she is a faculty member at the Oregon College of Art & Craft. Inge publishes limited edition, fine press artist’s books under her imprint INK-A! Press and also makes a variety of text based artwork. She received her MFA in Book Arts from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa in 1994 and went on to be artist-in-residence at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts and then Lecturer at the University of California at Santa Barbara for 4 years before moving to Portland. Her work is shown and collected internationally, and is owned by institutions such as the Getty Research Institute, British Library, Minneapolis Institute of the Arts and New York Public Library. Her work is also held in the artist book collections of Yale, Harvard, and Stanford. Inge was sole proprietor of the recently closed Textura letterpress printing and book arts studio where for over 10 years she had the great fortune of collaborating with artists, designers, and letterpress enthusiasts to envision their ideas in print and book form. Ms. Bruggeman will speak on recent book related travels and residencies, investigating her traditional book and craft work alongside recent installation work that departs from the traditional book in an effort to talk about the book as cultural icon and artifact.
Inge will also be conducting a workshop, Collections and Archives: Shifts in Meaning Through Shifts in Text & Image, September 14-16th at the UI Center for the Book.
