Presenter: Katie Grams, Education Program Associate

Katie is a Population Education Associate for Population Education (PopEd), a national nonprofit program that supports teachers covering population and related environmental and social topics in the classroom, where she facilitates training workshops for K-12 educators throughout the United States. Katie is a Teach For America alumni and completed her service in Charlotte, North Carolina. Description: Our global population is expected to rise to about 10 billion people by 2050. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore some of these demographic trends, impacts on the environment, and implications for communities. Participate in unique activities with science and social studies content ranging from climate change to student activism. Receive over 40 free standards-aligned lesson plans and access to a library of digital tools from Population Education. This workshop will share all new content from other UIowa workshops, and will be of particular interest to APHG and APES teachers.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
