Presenter: Katie Grams, Education Program Associate

Katie is a Population Education Associate for Population Education (PopEd), a national nonprofit program that supports teachers covering population and related environmental and social topics in the classroom, where she facilitates training workshops for K-12 educators throughout the US. Katie is a Teach For America alumni and completed her service in Charlotte, NC. In her five years in the classroom, Katie taught AP Environmental Science, Anatomy and Physiology, Physics, Earth and Space Science, and Biology. In addition to her classroom experience, Katie also served as a Public Policy Fellow with the Council for Opportunity in Education.

Description: Global population hit 8 billion last November. Having so many people means impacts on communities and the environment. Explore interdisciplinary lessons that bring together the science of earth and human activity with ecosystem functions along with the social studies of advocating for change in one’s communities. Receive over 40 free standards-aligned lesson plans and access to a library of digital tools from Population Education. This workshop will share all new content from other UIowa workshops.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
