A girl in braids and a brightly-colored hat stands in front of a crowded subway station.

The first and only feature film from Leslie Harris, Just Another Girl on the I.R.T. (1992), this funny, emotionally resonant, and highly stylized ’90s drama is presented as part of Out of the Archive: Black Women Behind the Lens.

Chantel, a hip, intelligent, Black Brooklyn teenager (Ariyan A. Johnson) dreams of escaping life in the New York City projects to go to college and become a doctor. Things go awry when she meets a cute dude with a Jeep, a brownstone, and a mom who spends a lot of time at her boyfriend's.
