The South Asian Studies Program, an International Programs affinity group, and the University of Iowa School of Art & Art History invite you to "Sustainable Traditional Practices from an Indian Perspective," a talk by Seema Srivastava, on Wednesday, March 22, from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., in 1117 University Capitol Centre

Seema Srivastava is an artist, art historian, cultural theorist, and professor who has been passionately involved with the world of art for more than three decades. An expert on the art and craft of India, Srivastava readily discusses the intersectional and cross-disciplinary aspects within the fine arts, heritage crafts, and architecture of India. From water conservation and step wells, to Ayurveda, rituals, yoga, recycling, up-cycling, sentimental hand-me-downs, and textiles, Srivastava will connect the cultural and traditional values of India with historic sustainable traditions and lifestyle.

Srivastava earned a BFA from the University of Delhi; an MA in history of art and an MPhil in Indian arts, crafts, and aesthetics from the National Museum Institute of Art, Conservation, and Museology, New Delhi. In her passion to impact knowledge and curate unique cultural experiences, she has taught art at the University of Delhi and the National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation, and Museology, as well as at other premier design institutes. Srivastava has presented a range of academic papers and lectures on diverse aspects of the arts. In addition to conducting heritage walks, she has guided museum visits and craft experiences in and around Delhi for art and culture enthusiasts.
