Description: This workshop will discuss the pressing issue of underrepresentation in gifted education. With a particular focus on children from diverse linguistic, racial, and low socioeconomic status backgrounds, the presentation aims to highlight the behavioral differences, unique needs, and intervention strategies required for this often overlooked population. It also underscores the significance of alternative identification methods to ensure a more inclusive and equitable approach to identifying gifted students. The presentation seeks to shed light on the challenges faced by underrepresented groups and offers innovative solutions for creating a more inclusive educational system that nurtures the potential of all gifted and talented individuals, regardless of their background.

Learning Goals: 1) Understand the challenges and unique needs of underrepresented gifted students from diverse backgrounds, including linguistic, racial, and low socioeconomic status groups. 2) Recognize the significance of alternative identification methods (i.e., teacher training and knowledge) and intervention strategies for fostering inclusivity and equity in gifted education. 3) Develop a commitment to advocate for and implement more inclusive practices in gifted education to nurture the potential of all gifted and talented individuals, regardless of their background.
