Heidi Roop and Stratis Giannakouros Book Talk

Join us on Earth Day for an engaging discussion featuring climate scientist Dr. Heidi Roop in conversation with UI Office of Sustainability Director Stratis Giannakouros. Dr. Roop’s new book, The Climate Action Handbook, is a visually stunning guide that goes beyond typical climate change literature—it’s approachable, digestible, and filled with practical ideas, options, and a roadmap for action. Importantly, it also offers hope—a beacon often overlooked in climate conversations. 

As the world focuses more intently on climate science, it becomes imperative for each of us to understand how our individual actions can contribute to saving our planet. From making mindful food and fashion choices to rethinking travel, greening our homes and gardens, and actively engaging in community climate planning, Dr. Roop’s book shares 100 wide-ranging ways that readers from all walks of life can help move the needle in the right direction. Whether you’re an environmental enthusiast or simply curious about making a positive impact, this event promises inspiration, actionable solutions, and a renewed sense of hope.

Dr. Heidi Roop is the Director of the University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership and an Assistant Professor of Climate Science and Extension Specialist at the University of Minnesota. In addition to her appointments at the University of Minnesota, she also is an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Washington and serves as expert advisor to a range of organizations and agencies as they seek to build resilience to climate change. 

Stratis Giannakouros is the Director of the UI Office of Sustainability and the Environment.
