Korean Traditional Music and Drumming Workshop

Presenter: Dr. Soojin Lee, MacPhail residency artist at the MacPhail Center in Minnesota

Description: This workshop provides a unique opportunity to experience the sounds of Korea through a hands-on music experience and to enhance cultural awareness and understanding of Korean culture. The first part is open to the public; Only the first 25 registrations can attend the second part. Please register here.

Workshop Schedule Details:

    Part I: Korean Traditional Music and Gayageum: 9–10 a.m.

We will spend the first hour learning about traditional Korean music and the gayageum, a traditional Korean stringed instrument. This session is open to the public, no registration required.

Part II: Korean Drumming Session: 10:15 a.m.–noon

The second hour focuses on exploring the basics of Korean drumming, Samulnori (a drum ensemble with four different drums), and playing with other participants. This second hour is a fun and hands-on Korean drumming experience. Registration is required for this session, and seats are limited to 25 participants. The number of Korean drums is limited, but alternatives are available.
