Longtime financial advisor Aaron Martin struggled to manage his severe depression until he discovered the life-changing benefits of psychedelics treatment. Join us for Chat From the Old Cap as we sit down with Martin and three UI Department of Psychiatry researchers on the effectiveness of psychedelic drugs to treat mental health disorders.

Professor of psychiatry Peg Nopoulos (85BS, 89MD, 93R, 94F) will moderate the discussion alongside emeritus professor of psychiatry Michael Flaum (90F) and licensed psychologist Candida Maurer (77BLS, 79MA, 91PhD). They’ll discuss the life-changing benefits of psychedelic drugs, what the treatments entail, and the promising research happening at Iowa.

You’ll also hear how Martin’s experience—from trip to treatment—inspired him to become an advocate for the positive outcomes of psychedelics.

Chat From the Old Cap is a series of virtual engagement sessions featuring Iowa alumni and friends sharing stories from their careers, backgrounds, and the university.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
