9:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m.   Files to Ferrule: A Restoratively Driven Path to Endodontic Excellence

                                     Presenter: George A. Bruder, DMD.

 Overview: This course focuses on the extension of the tooth life cycle.

 Participants will learn the benefits of reviewing Remaining Dentin Thickness (RDT) and current endodontic restorative trends/ techniques that preserve long-term success of the tooth. The goal of this course is to reinforce the value of combining   Endo/Resto and the need to retain Pericervical Dentin and the establishment of a “TruFerrule.” While many significant advancements have been made in metallurgy and file design, today’s rotary files don’t adequately conform to irregular shaped   canal anatomy, leaving 35% or more of the canal’s surface area unchanged¹ thus leaving bacteria behind. Can we improve our effectiveness without unnecessarily removing tooth structure that, if left intact, might extend the life of the tooth?

At the end of the presentation, participants should be able to:

• • • • Diagnose and Treatment plan Endo/Resto procedures and expand referral partnerships. 
      • Discuss endodontic therapy including pre-endodontic restorations, access, and dentin preservation.
      • Understand the limitations of current technologies in touching all canal walls.
      • Understand the importance of retaining intraradicular dentin.
      • Understand how maximizing canal wall contact can enhance the efficacy of irrigants.
      • Provide clear guidelines for when a post is needed and determining the placement of direct vs. indirect restorations.
      • Incorporate modern irrigation principles into their endodontic treatment protocols.
      • Explain why single visit Endo/Resto is preferred and when it is not an option.

1–4 p.m.                          Endodontic Retreatment versus Endodontic Surgery:  Decision Planning Dilemmas

Presenter: George A. Bruder, D.M.D.

Overview: As clinicians, we are often presented with endodontic cases that persist with symptoms or become re-infected. The decision to treat or extract a tooth in the esthetic zone is one of the most complex decisions that a practitioner makes. It is a test of the team’s knowledge and ability to reach the goal of an esthetic and functional restoration that will last for years to come. All this must be done with the patient’s emotional and financial status considered. The session will focus on the latest challenges in diagnosing endodontically treated teeth that might require nonsurgical retreatment, surgery to assist in rubber dam isolation, apical surgery and/or intentional replantation. This will be both a “why to” presentation focusing on the decision-making process and a “how to” presentation.

      At the end of the presentation, participants should be able to:

• Obtain a 3D diagnostic database for successful endodontic treatment planning and case acceptance.
• Discuss the future of surgical procedures to enhance rubber dam isolation.
• Describe how technology can change endodontic outcomes.
• Review What Digital Transformation is…
• Disseminate advancements in the field.

Biography – Dr. George Bruder

George A. Bruder, DMD – Dr. Bruder was the founding Chair of the Department of Endodontics and Director of the Advanced Specialty Education Program in Endodontics and Associate Dean for Education and Information Technologies at Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine from 2006–15. In 2012, Dr. Bruder was awarded the prestigious Edward M. Osetek Educator Award from the American Association of Endodontists and is also a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, National Dental Honor Society. Dr. Bruder is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists.

Dr. Bruder has delivered more than 1,000 lectures both nationally and internationally. In addition, he has published numerous articles on Micro-Endodontics and Endodontic technologies and authored and co-authored numerous textbook chapters including the chapter on non-surgical Micro-Endodontic Retreatments with Dr. Robert R. White in Color Atlas of Endodontics, by Dr. William Johnson. 

Currently, Dr. Bruder divides his time between his family, private practice, and providing the ultimate in hands-on participation continuing education programs. Dr. Bruder serves as CEO and President of TruEndo INC and coinvented both TRUShape and TruNatomy Endodontic Instrument Lines with Dr. Ove A. Peters.
