Cultivating Intra- and Interpersonal Skills among Graduate Speech Pathology Clinicians

Presented by Laura Schmitt, MS, CCC-SLP and Jenny Brodell, MA, CCC-SLP

Abstract: Schollenbarger (2019) states that intra-and interpersonal skills are essential for personal development, social participation, and workplace success. The responsibility for solidifying these skills in graduate student speech-language pathology clinicians falls to clinical educators both in the university and off-site settings. Supporting growth in these intra- and interpersonal skills can be challenging due to their nuanced and individualistic nature. In this talk, clinical educators from the University of Iowa will discuss essential skills and evidence-based supervisory strategies for developing these skills with graduate student clinicians.

Outcomes: Following this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Highlight three essential skills, including both intra- and interpersonal skills that are crucial for effective job performance and interactions in the workplace.
  • Identify three supervisory techniques and strategies to assist in the growth and development of student clinicians.
  • Explore two strategies that may be beneficial to students facing challenges in these essential skills.

Continuing Education: Participants will receive a certificate of attendance for 1.0 hour of continuing education following the event. Content is appropriate for state licensure, ASHA, and AAA continuing education requirements.

Registration: Register via Zoom by Aug. 16, 2024, to confirm your attendance.
