Description: In this workshop, students will gain hands-on experience participating in and designing STEAM activities using robotics and coding. For the hands-on STEAM challenge, students will learn how to program a Sphero robot to avoid obstacles and deliver a message. They will also learn about other robotics and coding tools available in schools for STEAM learning, and they'll be provided with additional resources and ideas for activities they might facilitate in their classrooms. Finally, they'll have an opportunity to brainstorm their own STEAM activity using robotics and coding. Please bring a laptop to the workshop, as you will need it for some of the hands-on and collaborative activities.
Learning Goals: 1) To become familiar with a variety of makerspace tools, technologies, and materials. 2) To develop the necessary skills and mindsets for facilitating integrated STEAM learning experiences for students. 3) To learn how to design and facilitate interest-driven, authentic, inclusive, and culturally sustaining STEAM activities.
