Johnson County Landmark & Black Combo in concert
A Swingin’ Affair: The Music of Quincy Jones
Johnson County Landmark & Black Combo
Wildwood Smokehouse and Saloon
Wednesday, Oct. 9 – 7 p.m.
While many recognize the name Quincy Jones from his landmark work with pop music legends like Michael Jackson, his actual beginnings in music were as a jazz trumpeter, composer and arranger. Jones has written and/or arranged some of the most recognizable of arrangements for a long list of jazz music’s most legendary figures — including The Count Basie Orchestra, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, and some of the most iconic arrangements sang by Frank Sinatra. Show opens with a set by the Black Combo (Michael D'Angelo, dir.) before Johnson County Landmark (Damani Phillips, dir.) takes the stage. Join us for a hard-swingin’ tribute to one of the most prolific and influential men in American music history. All ages welcome, nominal admission charge. Concert length: 2 hrs (approx).
Small cover, tickets available at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m.
