In June 2020, the University of Iowa adopted Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.1, Level AA (WCAG) as an institutional standard for conformance with the university's IT Accessibility Policy. The Guidelines are an internationally recognized standard for measuring the accessibility of digital technologies. Originally developed to assess web accessibility, WCAG principles have since been applied to a broad spectrum of technologies and tools including web content, electronic documents, mobile apps, and digital media. Since 2011, WCAG has been the standard for digital accessibility at the University of Iowa.

In this session, we will take a deep dive into the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Participants will understand how the Guidelines are organized, and learn specific techniques for using the Guidelines to ensure accessibility and conformance under the new federal legislation. We will also look closely at two valuable WCAG resources: How to Meet WCAG Quick Reference, a guide to meeting WCAG Guidelines and Success Criteria, and Easy Checks, a testing methodology that anyone can use to check eight key accessibility issues under WCAG.
