This is a 60-minute workshop focused on learning distress tolerance skills. Distress tolerance is the ability to manage distressing emotions and effectively move through stressful situations in an effective manner. This is a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) informed curriculum-driven series with structure and specific learning objectives and topics for each week. All participants will receive handouts with exercises to be completed both within and outside the group to facilitate their learning. Students will work to develop their own coping skills plan throughout this workshop.

The Distress Tolerance Workshop is a three-week series and attendance is expected at all three weeks in sequence. The current workshop series will be held on Fridays 10/21, 10/28, and 11/04 from 12-1 p.m. via Zoom and is open to any interested undergraduate, graduate and professional students and postdocs. Students/Postdocs are strongly encouraged to e-mail Dr. Holly Nicely for the zoom link in order to have access to the workshop workbook prior to the first meeting; however, students/postdocs can still attend the workshop series by joining the Zoom link at the designated time even if they do not e-mail in advance. Feel free to reach out with any questions!

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
