Come to a virtual Iowa Bibliophiles!

Join assistant professor of art Meghan O'Connor from Coastal Carolina University to hear more about her project involving finger-casting, dart-throwing, stone lithography, screenprinting, and community collaboration. “Casting Fingers, Casting Blame?” focuses on community, play, and indirect collaboration. The project includes part of a collection of fingers cast from willing participants combined with a series of lithography and screenprinting.

Hear about how her research at the University of Iowa Special Collections and Archives, specifically with the Smith Miniature Book Collection, has benefited this work, as well as how it will continue to do so as the project moves forward.

Meghan O’Connor holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from East Tennessee State University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Clemson University. Her research focuses on stone lithography, using modular forms to create larger structures, and creating artworks in which the audience can interact.

O'Connor's work has been exhibited regionally, nationally and internationally and can be found in the collection of Columbia College, Chicago; Gippsland Centre for Art and Design, Australia; Proyecto’ace Print Collection, Buenos Aires; and many other universities around the United States. In addition to this, she has completed artist residencies at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts’ Pentaculum, Gatlinburg, Tennessee; the Stonehouse Residency, Miramonte, California; and Arquetopia Foundation for Development in Puebla, Mexico.

O’Connor currently teaches printmaking and life drawing at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina.
