Dr. Albrecht served as Assistant Professor of Music Theory at Kent State University since 2019, and previously at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. A prolific researcher, presenter and editor, Dr. Albrecht has published several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, is an experienced conference presenter with over 50 conference presentations in the last decade, and has significantly invested in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in conducting original research. His research focuses on empirical musicology, or combining traditional musicological methods with scientific and empirical methodologies. He regularly conducts music cognition experiments and is also recognized for his work in digital humanities and computational musicology. At Kent State, he founded and led the Interdisciplinary Music Cognition Lab.

Dr. Kati Meyer is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the School of Music’s Theory Area, where her diverse teaching strategies and individualized relationship-building cultivate a unique learning experience for UI’s music students. Meyer’s extensive research on popular music and music theory pedagogy has led to multiple opportunities to present throughout the area. Most recently, she presented on “Teaching Music Theory Like A (Pro)fessor” at the Iowa Music Educators Association’s 2022 conference. She enjoys helping students to understand theoretical concepts through popular and Western Art music analysis and composition, as well as using baked goods as an incentive to participate in class. Dr. Meyer has held teaching positions at Morningside University, San Jacinto College, Briar Cliff University, the University of Iowa, and Northwestern University. She is also an accomplished pianist, having performed multiple concerti and solo recitals, and serves as a collaborative pianist for UI soloists/ensembles and area high schools. Kati Meyer earned a BA in Piano Performance from the University of Minnesota, Morris before earning an MM from Northwestern University and a PhD from the University of Iowa, both in Music Theory.

Jama Stilwell is Professor of Music and Department Chair at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.  She teaches courses in Music Theory and History, as well as topics courses on first-year writing, music and gender, the Beatles, and on the concept of originality and authorship in music.  Jama’s research focuses in part upon opera and popular culture in eighteenth-century Paris; her 2010 article on this topic in Music and Letters won national recognition as the recipient of the Alfred Einstein Award of the American Musicological Society.  She is also interested in the pedagogy of Music Theory and History, especially as it relates to teaching on Cornell College’s unusual “One-Course-at-a-Time” calendar.  Jama holds degrees in Musicology from Northwestern University (MM) and the University of Iowa (PhD), and an undergraduate degree in Flute Performance from the University of Iowa, where she studied with Betty Bang Mather. In her spare time, Jama loves playing the one-keyed 18th-century traverso.
