Kanchan Chander is a visionary artist from New Delhi, India. With a diverse artistic education spanning institutions such as the Weisensee Kunst Hochschule in Berlin and the College of Art in Delhi, Kanchan's creative work reflects a fusion of global influences.
Her art speaks volumes about the domestic centricity of feminine experience, exploring themes of the mythic divine feminine and the iconic imagery of the Devi and the torso. Through brightly painted canvases adorned with sequins, silver leaf, and beads, Kanchan celebrates the richness of feminine sensuality and fertility.
From her early focus on tribal imagery to her recent exploration of female legends like Frida Kahlo, Bollywood and Hollywood stars, Kanchan's work has evolved, Investigating mediums such as printmaking, collage, digital art, and traditional painting. Her pieces have graced solo and group exhibitions across India and beyond, earning her accolades such as the Yuva Mahotsava and the International Print Biennale Bradford awards.
Today, Kanchan Chander's art finds a home in prestigious collections worldwide, from the Victoria & Albert Museum in London to the Fukuoka Museum in Japan. Her vibrant compositions continue to captivate audiences, offering a window into the complexities of womanhood and the enduring allure of the female form.
