Write Now Contest | Hawkeye Haiku
How do you define “family?” Is it a group of individuals who live under one roof, or a select number of individuals who are there for you no matter the circumstances?
See details and submit: https://www.foriowa.org/write-now/hawkeye-haiku/
Use your own definition of this word as you channel your creativity in our annual Write Now: UI Alumni and Friends Hawkeye Haiku Contest. You have from Nov. 4–15, 2024, to send us a haiku that explores a “family” theme in a 5-7-5 syllable pattern.
The age categories are:
• Grades 3 & 4
• Grades 5 & 6
• Grades 7 & 8
• Grades 9–12
• Adult (University of Iowa Alumni)
• Adult (Friend of the University)
All your favorite Hawkeyes, young and old alike, can join you in this contest, so spread the word! For complete contest details, check out our website.
We will feature the top entry in each age category on our UI Write Now Contest website. We will also send the winners in the grade-school categories an Iowa scribe pack and a $25 Bookshop.org gift card. We will send the adult winners a $50 Bookshop.org gift card and a book — A Little Book on Form: An Exploration into the Formal Imagination of Poetry — by former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Hass, who taught in the Iowa Writers’ Workshop.
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
