Please join us from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Claudia McGehee's Iowa River Frost Fair (an event in name inspired by medieval artisan fairs held on the frozen river Thames in London, home to Claudia’s ancestors!). Iowa City based Illustrator/Author Claudia will sign her new 2025 Engagement Calendar “Dwelling," copies of her beloved illustrated books (including her band new picture book Counting Winter), and we will have lots of her new holiday prints on hand!
Claudia McGehee is a local artist and author/ illustrator of numerous award-winning picture books. She works in scratchboard, a unique medium that celebrates nature and story with lively, woodcut-like lines. In starred reviews from Kirkus and School Library Journal, McGehee’s scratchboard illustrations have been praised as “meticulous” and “striking.” Her titles include the newly published Counting Winter, My Wilderness: an Alaskan Adventure, A Tallgrass Prairie Alphabet, North Woods Girl by Aimee Bissonette, Creekfinding: A True Story by Jacqueline Briggs Martin, and Begin With A Bee by Jacqueline Briggs Martin. Raised in the Pacific Northwest, she lives in Iowa City. She finds great beauty, variety and dignity in the natural world and celebrate these in her illustrations.
All who stop by will receive a small Frost Fair paper gift!
