Midwestern food, farming, health, and water: Learnings and lesser-told stories from Indiana University’s community-engaged research
Come explore another Midwestern flagship university’s narrative research into connections surrounding food systems and water, conducted with the people who work in these systems and other non-academic partners. Julia Valliant will delve into the transdisciplinary research her teams of social and natural scientists conduct - including some focused on Iowa - and the stories worth telling that unfurl from the work.
Julia Valliant, PhD, MHS, Research Scientist with Indiana University’s Program in Food and Agrarian Systems
Valliant’s current portfolio of engagement and research focuses on ties between food systems, farmland dynamics, and investments in regional food systems. Her most recent articles appeared in the journals Agriculture & Human Values, Journal of Rural Studies, and, with co-authors, Nature. She resides with her family in Bloomington, Indiana, and helps with her parents’ diversified farm and forest land. Her doctoral training was in Public Health through the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
