Identifying phase transitions with entanglement entropy approximations

Zane Ozzello

Entanglement entropy is of interest in multiple areas of current physics, but is difficult to measure with quantum computers due to its non-locality. The classical mutual information as an approximation to the entanglement will be discussed as an alternative. This approach will be demonstrated for multipartite systems, and with this ability phase transitions can be identified. Using the mutual information, the entanglement entropy for different partitions of quantum Ising, φ4, and Rydberg systems are shown.  As a means of further improvement to this approximation, the basis dependence of the ditstring probabilities and the impact of filtration on these probabilities are investigated for their applicability.
