Archaeological Explorations in Southwest Iowa
The Office of the State Archaeologist is partnering with Golden Hills RC&D and Pottawattamie County Conservation to travel to southwest Iowa to give two archaeology programs in February 2019. The programs will feature Chérie Haury-Artz, Education Assistant with The Office of the State Archaeologist.
Archaeological Explorations in Southwest Iowa
Archaeology is not about the artifacts, it’s about what the artifacts can tell us about past human’s lives. In these talks we will take a look at what archaeologists have learned about the people who lived in the Loess Hills and along the Nishnabotna Rivers in the Southern Iowa Drift Plain of southwest Iowa. From the earliest Ice Age hunters to Iowa’s first farmers Native People have adapted to the changing environment utilizing the resources available to create thriving cultures.
Both programs are open to the public and free with park admission. Support for these programs comes from Pottawattamie County Community Foundation. Events will be held indoors rain or shine, and only postponed if travel conditions are unsafe.
