Print by Kavita Shah

Kavita Shah is a visual artist, educationist and art shows curator. She has been a practicing print maker for over 35 years. Kavita is the co-founder of Chhaap Foundation for printmaking Trust, Vadodara – a non-profit organization running a community print studio. Her studio focuses on experimenting with print medium and techniques. Chhaap also supports artist-in-residence and has so far hosted more than 25 senior artists from 15+ countries. Kavita via Chhaap promotes non-toxic print making techniques and has been instrumental in getting Japanese, American and European print masters to her studio for conducting technical workshops for local artists. She also collaborated for a significant project with Japan Foundation on water-based woodblock print techniques. She was Associate Professor of Basic Design in College of Architecture, Lecturer in Faculty of Fine Arts and Art Teacher in several prestigious schools. Kavita is jury for several colleges and institutes for post graduate student examinations. Kavita was consultant to Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur for re-designing and revitalizing their print studios, mentor to art teachers through Art 1st. She also has been elected board member of ResArtis for 5 years, a Netherland based Artist Group. Kavita has curated several large shows including China Art Academy Print Biennial in Hang Zhou and Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur. She has exhibited her work widely nationally and internationally – including China Print Biennales, IMPACT at Estonia and Bristol, Southern Graphic Council, Kansas USA She has curated several print portfolios with international artists and done a series of print portfolios on Indian Board Games which have been exhibited in several cities in India and in more than 15 countries globally. She has been selected in major art shows like Triennial-India, Bharat Bhavan Print Biennial, First print Biennial and National exhibition by Lalit Kala Academy. Kavita has been regularly invited for senior artist camps organized by government institutes and private corporate houses. She has participated in numerous international and national conferences as speaker, panel member, jury and participant.  She has given talks on at several institutes, colleges and art centres including National Gallery of Modern Art and Mohile Parekh Centre for Visual Arts, Mumbai. Kavita has done art residencies in Germany, Italy and Finland, and has worked in Atelier La Couriere et Frelaut in Paris on the invitation of French Government in 1997 and at Robert Blackburn’s Print Making Workshop, USA in 1998. Kavita is recipient of many awards from Lalit Kala Academy, AIFACS and Group 8. She is also ATSA (ArtThinkSouthAsia) fellow 2014-15. Kavita did her masters in Print Making from MS University of Baroda in 1985. She loves to travel, meet people, explore new print making techniques and new art mediums.
